McLaren Elva with windshield

McLaren has been delivering the supercar Elva since the beginning of the year. Like the Aston Martin Speedster and the Ferrari SP Monza, this model does without any protection from the elements. However, McLaren now listened to its customers and added a second version with a windshield. Although this was developed from the outset in parallel with the already familiar vehicle without windshield, the work took longer. The first units will not be delivered to customers until the end of this year. They are part of the limited edition of only 149 Elva that will be built. With the introduction of the windshield, however, McLaren isn’t only complying with customer requests, but also with licensing regulations in some US states and other countries. There will be no roof or side windows available.

Behind the passengers, the four-liter V8 biturbo engine with 815 hp is also used. This power meets an unladen weight of less than 1.3 tons. The windshield, wipers, rain sensor and sun visors add just 20 kilograms to this figure. The active air guidance system of the windshieldless version is omitted at the front. McLaren quotes a time of 2.8 seconds for the sprint to 62 mph, and 6.8 seconds to 124 mph. As with the already familiar model without a windshield, the Elva with a windshield is likely to be customized before delivery at the MSO department of McLaren. For example, various Heritage paint schemes inspired by historic McLaren race cars are available.
