Bizzarrini 5300 GT Corsa Revival

Since 2020, the naming rights to the Italian sports car brand Bizzarrini have been in new hands. The first project announced was a new edition of the classic 5300 GT Corsa, with which company founder Giotto Bizzarrini started out on his own in the 1960s from a failed partnership with Iso. A first prototype of this Revival project has now entered into driving tests. Like all 24 customer cars that will follow, the car was hand-built in a new factory in the UK. In the process, the employees used original blueprints and received remanufactured components from suppliers of the original car. Compared to the original, a few detail modifications were made to improve safety and handling. For example, the gas tank was actually located in the side skirts and behind the driver’s seat. A 3D scan of an original vehicle made it possible to utilize free areas in the chassis. This reduced the volume only minimally to 95 liters.

Paint color remixed

Particular attention was paid to the prototype’s paintwork. The famous red called “Rosso Corsa” exists in the color charts of various Italian brands and in different shades. Bizzarrini managed to find a piece of metal that had been painted in the 1960s and kept away from UV light since then, so that a color sample could be taken. The paint thus remixed was given the name “Rosso Corsa Bizzarrini 222”. This numbering refers to the racing car with chassis number 0222, with which Regis Fraissinet and Jean de Mortemart competed at Le Mans in 1965. There, they won the class over five liters displacement and finished ninth overall. The paint scheme for the 5300 GT Corsa Revival prototype was taken from this car. Over a steel frame, it got a composite bodywork. The rollcage is also new but still complies with the FIA’s Appendix K regulations for historic motorsport.

400 hp on 1,250 kg

The specifications of the 5.3-liter V8 engine are clearly in line with the historic model. Four Weber twin carburetors provide more than 400 hp. This power meets a curb weight of just 1,250 kilograms. Customers who don’t wish to use their 5300 GT Corsa Revival in racing can obtain a carbon body on request. The first deliveries are already scheduled for May 2022. A total of just 24 units will be built, plus the prototype shown in our gallery. Bizzarrini didn’t provide any information on prices.
