Opel Classic in 360 degrees

Many European car brands have been operating their own classic car museums for (in some cases many) years. Mercedes-Benz and Porsche in particular were pioneers in this field. Volkswagen crowned the concept 21 years ago by building the Autostadt in Wolfsburg with brand pavillons, museum and event areas in addition to the brand museum, which continues to operate. The situation is quite different for the biggest competitor for dominance in the compact car category on the German market. Although Opel has a more than impressive number of over 600 classic vehicles and 300 other exhibits, the company hasn’t yet been able to make them accessible to the public. Both in its time as a subsidiary brand of General Motors and now as a Stellantis company, there is a lack of money and space for this. 159 years of company history and 120 years of automobile manufacturing should nevertheless be shown.

Currently, th classic cars of the brand with the lightning bolt in a circle are parked on two floors in the old loading station K6 as well as in the adjacent hall K2 on the Rüsselsheim factory premises. It is now possible to visit these areas virtually and view them via 360-degree view. Some exhibits are explained in more detail by information points. In addition, the four virtual tours “Alternative Drives”, “Rally Racing”, “Roaring Twenties” and “Mobility for Millions” can be activated. By our count, you can discover more than 220 production cars, racing cars and concept cars. Next to them, there are bicycles, motorcycles, engines and various other items. It’s a pity that the whole thing only exists virtually. You can see for yourself at this link (for the moment only in German).
