Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition
Car fans must be strong in the near future. Next to the debates on diesel vehicles and particulate matter, the introduction of fleet values for CO2 emissions is approaching, which will impose hefty penalties on major manufacturers starting in 2020 if the newly sold vehicles exceed the annual maximum limit. For this reason, we are currently seeing new hybrid and electric cars at all new car shows such as Geneva, New York and so on, with local emission levels meeting all expectations. Unfortunately, nearly nobody talks about the CO2 emissions that are generated for the mining of rare earths, the battery production and the generation of electricity to run all those vehicles, which would ultimately turn the values significantly into negatives, away from what the politicians desire. But it also means that more and more automakers say goodbye to proven concepts. So for example Mercedes deletes the V12 engine from their line-up after 28 years. Once it was considered as a flagship project for the 600 SEL (W140). Now it is a dinosaur dying a quick death with the current limits.
Before they delete this engine option from their price lists, Mercedes-AMG waves good bye to it with the Final Edition of the S 65 sedan. This special edition model is only available in ‘Obsidian Black metallic’, whereby the bodywork gets various accents in matt bronze. Thus, in addition to the surrounds of the front air intakes and the trim on the sills and the rear bumper, also the 20-inch alloy rims show this exclusive color. AMG logos sit on the C-pillars. Meanwhile, the four tailpipes carry high-gloss black. Through the large panoramic glass roof with ‘Magic Sky Control’ comes a lot of natural light into the interior at the touch of a button. In order to keep the S 65 Final Edition clean within a car collection, every owner receives a custom-made indoor car cover with bronze-embroidered lettering ‘AMG S 65 Final Edition’.

Inside, black nappa leather is used in combination with copper-colored stitching. The bare carbon decorative elements also show woven copper-colored threads. Further accents in this color can also be found at the seams of the floor mats and as the preconfiguration for the ambient light. An ‘AMG Edition’ badge sits on the lower bar of the steering wheel and another badge is located on the center console labeled ‘1 of 130’, indicating the limited quantity of the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition. The ‘First Class Fond’ equipment option has two individual rear seats, which are adjusted by up to 12 electric motors each and separated by a continuous business console with temperes cup holders. On the passenger side, the seat offers a leg rest and a backrest inclination of up to 43.5° for an optimal relaxation position.
Under the bonnet we find the six-liter V12 biturbo engine for the last time. It produces 463 kW/630 hp and applies a maximum torque of 1,000 newtonmeters to the crankshaft. This is constantly available in the rev range between 2,300 and 4,300 rpm. Thanks to the AMG Driver’s Package, the sedan reaches a topspeed of up to 300 kph (186 mph).
