WEVC Coupé

A new electric car with a retro look will soon be rolling out of the UK. The Watt Electric Vehicle Company (WEVC) isn’t only presenting its first production car, but also the PACES EV platform it has developed. This can also be used for other projects in the future. It consists of bonded aluminium and integrates the battery pack in the underbody. For the British company it was important to comply with ISO regulations for the powertrain and chassis and to ensure the necessary crash safety in order to obtain European Small Series Type Approval.

Ten months of testing already completed

The use of high-strength aluminium also helps keep the weight down. According to the data sheet, the car weighs less than 1,000 kilograms (kerb weight). By moving the electric motor to the center behind the two passengers, WEVC achieves a 50:50 weight distribution between the axles. The Launch Edition features an electric motor with 120 kW (equivalent to 163 hp) and a lithium-ion battery pack with 40 kWh capacity. WEVC has spent the past ten months intensively testing and trialling an initial prototype. This included refining the handling, which is very direct and agile thanks to double wishbones all round. These tests also achieved the previously calculated average WLTP range of 230 miles.

Shape based on the Porsche 356 A

Visually, WEVC’s Coupé is clearly based on the 1955 Porsche 356 A. However, the classic shape was given a wind tunnel treatment and various surfaces as well as the transisions between the body and windows were optimized. Inside, the Coupé offers space for up to two occupants. The dashboard integrates a modern infotainment system and air conditioning. For the Launch Edition offered at the outset, WEVC is calling a price of £ 81,250.
