Vintage Electric E-Bikes

E-bikes are currently a big sales success and of course for some readers a possible present for Christmas. But which one should you take from the rich offer out there? For a comprehensive purchase advice we are missing space and, to be honest, the know-how, but when it comes to pure looks, probably the two-wheelers of Vintage Electric from California are worth one or two looks. The Americans design their four current electric bike models in the style of classic motorcycles and mopeds, without omitting modern elements. Company founder Andrew Davidge presented his ideas during for the first time during the Monterey Car Week 2013 and immediately aroused great interest. By high-quality materials and an elaborate assembly they want to achieve the highest possible reliability and longevity.

Cafe

With their entry-level model, Vintage Electric skilfully reminds of the Cafe Racers from the motorcycle scene. For the way to work or for small purchases, this e-bike is powerful enough. Depending on the driving style, one battery charge is sufficient for a range of 20 to 60 miles. Then it takes about two hours to re-charge at a household socket. The topspeed is at 28 mph thanks to a 750-watt motor. On the way, the driver can choose between five levels of electric assist for the pedals. There is also ten-speed gearbox. For the frame, that is available in three different sizes, the colors red and bronze are on offer. Official selling price is 3,995 US$.

Scrambler S

With the Scrambler S, Vintage Electric consciously goes into light terrain as well. Five electric assistance levels and an additional race mode, restricted to private property, allow for a topspeed of up to 36 mph. On the road it is limited to 20 mph. The race mode increases the engine power briefly from 750 to 3,000 watts. The range per battery charge is 40 to 75 miles, while charging the 1.123 kWh strong battery takes four hours. The 6,995 US$ e-bike is only available in matte black.

Tracker

Modern nostalgia at Vintage Electric bears the name Tracker and is inspired by American racing motorbikes from Indian or Harley-Davidson from the early 20th century. With five selectable modes, the driver can determine how much electrical extra-power he wants to use next to the pedals. With each braking maneuver, recuperation returns some energy to the rechargeable batteries, which can otherwise be charged at every socket within three hours. Fully loaded they allow a range between 25 and 50 miles and a maximum speed of 20 mph. This can be increased on private property with the race mode to 36 mph. This e-bike is only available in ‘Indy Red’ and costs 4,995 US$.

Tracker S

Compared to the normal Tracker, the Tracker S offers a bigger battery capacity of 1,123 watt-hours with a range of between 40 and 75 miles and a re-charging time of four hours. Since the same electric motor is used, the topspeed remains at 20 mph, which increases to 36 mph in race mode (on private property only). The silver-painted e-bike costs 6,995 US$.
