Toskill – From Mickey Mouse and Porsche Pop Art

Tobias Schobert aka Toskill’s art immediately catches the eye. Bright colors, eye-catching motifs and exciting combinations of print, acrylic and graffiti are his trademark. I became aware of him at an art exhibition, which initially has 0.0 to do with cars. I was all the more excited when I discovered the body of a Porsche 911 placed in front of the exhibition. So creatively sprayed and painted that I wanted to know more.

First of all, Tobias himself, whose career as a sought-after artist seems rather coincidental. He painted at a young age, but initially decided to train as a car mechanic. In the meantime, the young painter makes a living from his works of art. Quitting his job as a screwdriver at Audi about 2 years ago is the entrance into a future in which he can fully live his passion and his skills. However, this only became possible through his “accidental” breakthrough in 2020, when he painted a pop art picture with a Mickey Mouse for his little sister’s birthday and immediately received a follow-up order from an enthusiastic guest.

His reference to automobiles can also be seen in his artworks: alongside comic figures and pop art graphics, there are elements such as the Porsche emblem or the rear end of a 911. What they all have in common is that they are extremely colorful, pop, and in tune with the zeitgeist. His brilliant success confirms this – his artworks hang in the living rooms of Justin Bieber, Eko Fresh, Kid Ink and Felix Lobrecht, among others.

Cut Porsche in half, please.

Certainly his most unusual project to date grew out of the idea of hanging a painted, real Porsche on the wall.

Together with a model maker, he put what initially sounded like a crazy project into practice. What did he need for it? Nothing less than half a Porsche cut lengthwise in its original dimensions. This was produced in 1:1 format from GRP in Landshut. Original parts from a real 911, such as the headlights, door handle and radiator grille, are built into the unique model.

With acrylic paint and spray cans, the model in Toskill’s studio in Ingolstadt then became the work of art that captivated me as a young art enthusiast and car enthusiast. It is the combination of creative, colorful expression and the classic, timeless design of a classic car. This appeals equally to car lovers, colorful birds who like to stand out, and fans of aesthetics and contemporary art. The modern interpretation of a perfectly shaped 911 and the bridge to pop art probably ensured that the first example, exhibited at a BAODT Art exhibition, sold immediately.
