Porsche 935 dpIII

At dp Motorsport in Overrath near Cologne, high-quality sports cars and racing cars have been produced for 45 years, mainly based on Porsches. In the 1980s the company converted several 911s to 935s and consistently named the specially made kits dpI, dpII and dpIII. From the final kit dpIII, created from 1995 and based on the Porsche 911 (964) Turbo, only five copies existed for racing, some of them equipped with the engine of the Porsche 962. They dominated German motorsport series. The best-known vehicle belongs to the brothers Uwe and Jürgen Alzen until today and still appears occassionally at RCN and VLN races on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

In 1997 a customer approached Ekkehard Zimmermann, the founder of dp Motorsport, and asked if his Porsche 911 (964) Turbo could be converted into a street-legal version of the 935 dpIII. Since the appropriate expertise was available, Zimmermann accepted this job gladly. In addition to the pure body conversion with corresponding parts made of glassfiber reinforced plastic with further reinforcements made of carbonfiber, the car was repainted from the original black to polar silver, the color of the Alzen racing car.

With the optics, however, it was by no means done in the case of this unique conversion. The customer wanted a street version of the 935 dpIII and should receive it as well. dp Motorsport increased the performance of the 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine with turbocharging through classic tuning to about 450 hp. For this purpose, they also fitted an H&R coilover suspension, uniball strut bearings and an adjustable aluminium strut bar in the trunk. Three-piece, 18-inch alloy wheels in Cup design of RH Alurad fill the wheel arches and are covered with 245/40 tires up front and 335/30 at the rear.

The interior also received several new parts to stand out from the standard interior of the 964 Turbo. For example, ‘935-lollipop’-sports seats are available for the driver and co-driver. In addition there is a new airbag steeringwheel, various bicolor leather accents in black and classic grey as well as a Clubsport rollbar behind the seats. Recently a sports car dealer from Miami/Florida purchased the vehicle and sent it for a review to dp Motorsport prior to the shipment to the US. On this occasion, a new stainless steel exhaust system was installed.
