Morgan Plus Four LM62

The year was 1962, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans was contested by various other teams, including a Morgan factory team from Malvern Link. At the end of the race, the production-based Plus 4 SuperSports with the driver pairing of Richard Shepard-Baron and Chris Lawrence crossed the finish line in 13th place. That alone would be a sensation when comparing the car to thoroughbred race cars like the winning Ferrari 330 TRI LM Spyder. However, it also meant class victory in the GT category up to two liters. The Morgan was also the only car in this class to make it to the finish. Here it is true: To finish first you first have to finish. Morgan 60 years ago actually used a street-legal vehicle with license plate TOK 258.

Two colors available

This Plus 4 showed up in a shade of dark green, although Morgan usually used red race cars at the time. Inspired by these cars, a special limited series of 62 examples of the current Morgan Plus Four called LM62 is now being produced. The bodywork can be finished in either “Morgan Jet Green” or “Morgan Tertre Rouge”. In contrast, the hardtop, which is available for the first time for this model generation, wears radiant “Heritage White”. A special feature are the start rondels with the number 29, which was also worn by “TOK 258” in 1962. At the rear, there’s a quick-release gas cap and an LM62 metal badge. Up front, two auxiliary headlights are mounted next to the grille. Below the front license plate sits a black-painted splitter including a black vent grille. The exhaust tailpipes are also black. While the A-pillars are finished in body color, the spoked wheels are silver.

Limited to 62 units

There is also an LM62 badge on the dashboard, which is numbered consecutively on customer cars. The press photos show the factory prototype. Laser-engraved “Les 24 Heures Du Mans” lettering appears on the leather door straps and a “’62 Les 24 Heures Du Mans” logo on the headrests. In addition, there are special rubber floor mats with black vinyl corners, a painted steering wheel center and a surface for the center tunnel and dashboard made of Tawny wood. The black, partially perforated comfort leather seats are heated. As an option, each customer receives production photo documentation and an LM62 accessory package with their car. This includes two-eared wheel spinners, a Moto-Lita steering wheel and a chrom interior mirror. Base price is £ 78,995, with the LM62 available in both left- and right-hand drive.
