Morgan Plus Four
With the new Plus Four, Morgan completes the renewal of its model range. This means that the entire portfolio is now based on the newly developed CX aluminium platform, which was introduced with the Plus Six last year. This is significantly stiffer than the old steel frame and weighs only 97 kilograms. 70 years after the market launch of the legendary Plus 4, all Morgans now bear a written name instead of numbers. Compared to the Plus Six, however, the new Plus Four doesn’t simply have a different engine, but also traditionally a narrower body with 104 millimeters less in the middle section and 78 millimeters less overall. The fenders have their own profile without deviating from the usual Morgan design. As before, they are made of aluminium sheets on an ash wood frame specially made for each vehicle. For the first time, the model stands on 15-inch spoked wheels, which made new wishbones, suspension components and brakes necessary. Headlights and taillights use LED technology.
Despite its smaller width, the new Plus Four offers more space for the two passengers and their luggage compared to the old Plus 4. The door cut-outs have alse been enlarged to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. in this way, the Plus Four is much more suitable for everyday use and is also available to taller customers. Hand-stitched leather covers the seats, the side areas of the center tunnel, the door panels and some areas of the dashboard. Standard equipment now includes comfort features such as wireles central locking, an audio system with Bluetooth connection, puddle lights, power steering and ABS. A mohair hood can be closed over the heads in bad weather, while sun visors are available in good weather. There are almost countless combinations of paint and leather colors available to configure the car.

Morgan has been working closely with BMW for a number of years and therefore selected a two liter four-cylinder turbo engine from Munich for the new Plus Four. This develops 190 kW/258 hp. A six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel are available. This choice also determines the torque value, which is 350 newtonmeters for the manual car and 400 newtonmeters for the automatic version. Acceleration from standstill to 62 mph takes 5.2 (manual) or 4.8 seconds (automatic). The topspeed is the same for both at 149 mph. BMW helped to develop an independent engine mapping for the two-seater roadster in order to achieve driving dynamics that match the vehicle concept. The ‘Sport Plus’ mode, which can be activated at the touch of a button, allows the accelerator pedal characteristics curve to be sharpened.
The order books for the new Morgan Plus Four are now open. The first copies will already be rolling out to dealers in the second quarter of the current year. The price list in the UK starts at £ 62,995 for the manual version and £ 64,995 for the automatic version (each including VAT).
