BMW M5 Edition 35 Jahre

It all started in 1978 with the mid-engined sports car M1. With this bang, the BMW Motorsport GmbH (today BMW M GmbH) was born and punished all the critics who didn’t want to believe that true sports cars could come from Munich. In 1984, they set a new exclamation point by mounting the powerful inline six-cylinder engine of the M1 into the second generation 5 Series. The result was just called M5 and led the way for a big number of sporty sedans from competitors, like Audi, Mercedes-Benz or Opel. Meanwhile, 35 years have passed in which the M5 has matured into the sixth model generation. The engine power was increased from 286 hp in the original M5 E28 up to 625 hp in the M5 Competition of the current F90 series. Just in time for the 35th anniversary, BMW now offers the sports sedan as an exclusive and limited special edition model.

The M5 Competition serves as a starting point for the Edition 35 Jahre. So it’s clear that the V8 biturbo engine also has 460 kW/625 hp and a maximal torque of 750 newtonmeters of torque. Special stiffer engine mounts combined with the independently tuned sports suspension ensure even greater driving dynamics. Thanks to the ‘M xDrive’ allwheel-drive system and an active limited slip differential on the rear axle, the sedan has plenty of driving power and traction on almost all surfaces. On dry tarmac, it can accelerate to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds and to 124 mph in 10.8 seconds. The electronically limited topspeed can be increased from 155 to 189 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package.

The bodywork of the M5 Edition 35 Jahre wears a special BMW Individual paint in ‘Frozen Dark Grey metallic’. This is joined by newly designed alloy wheels in 20-inch Y-spoke design with graphite-grey paint. Behind them sits the performance brake system with brake calipers, which can be optionally replaced by a carbon-ceramic brake system with gold-colored calipers. Inside, black merino leather covers the multi-contour sports seats, rear seats, dashboard, steering wheel and parts of the door panels. While the steering wheel rim shows the M colors as stitching, the remaining leather parts show beige stitching. For the first time, BMW uses the ‘Aluminium Carbon Structure Gold anodized’ interior parts in the Edition 35 Jahre, with a laser inscripted ‘Edition 35 Jahre – 1/350’ lettering on the cup holder bearing. Also the door sills show the model lettering.

All in all, BMW only produces 350 copies of the M5 Edition 35 Jahre for customers all over the world. Deliveries start in July. At the moment there is no information about prices.
