“Best of M” – BMW fans should not miss this auction!

For over five decades, BMW M has stood for vehicles that impress not only on paper, but above all on the road. On October 18, 2025, RM Sotheby’s will put these vehicles at the center of its annual auction at Motorworld Munich. For the fourth consecutive year, the hall will be transformed into a platform for collectors and enthusiasts. The focus will be on the “Best of M Collection,” a compilation of 22 BMW M models that documents the brand’s development over several decades.

Our Highlights:

1. 1995 BMW M3 GT – a dream in British Racing Green.

The BMW M3 GT of the E36 generation is a true masterpiece of engineering. With only 356 units produced exclusively for the European market, this model was developed as a homologation vehicle for motorsport. Powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine (S50B30), which was tuned to 295 hp with modified camshafts and higher compression, the M3 GT offers impressive performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

Visually, the M3 GT is presented in the exclusive British Racing Green color, combined with a Mexico Green Nappa leather interior. Other features include aluminum doors, an adjustable front splitter, a higher double rear wing, and specially tuned chassis components that make the vehicle around 30 kg lighter than the production version. This model was delivered in June 1995 and has been part of the “Best of M Collection” since July 2021.

2. 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe – Compact power in Valencia Orange

The 1 Series M Coupe combines the agility of a compact car with the performance of a sports car. With 340 hp and a weight of only 1,495 kg, it offers unparalleled handling. The model on offer in the launch color Valencia Orange Metallic was delivered in Germany in 2012 and has only 16,534 km on the clock, making it a collector’s item in almost mint condition.

For collectors, it’s not just the launch color that makes it so appealing: the combination of compact design, precise chassis, and clear M DNA makes the 1 Series M Coupe one of the most sought-after M models of recent years. The vehicle was added to the “Best of M Collection” in 2018 and today represents the quintessence of BMW craftsmanship for drivers who are still looking for a genuine connection between man and machine.

3. 2016 BMW M4 GTS Limited edition with racing technology

The M4 GTS sets new standards in terms of performance. With 500 hp, a weight of only 1,510 kg, and innovative water injection, it offers driving performance reminiscent of a race car. The vehicle offered here was manufactured in 2016 and has a mileage of only 63 km, making it one of the rarest and most sought-after models.

This model combines extreme technology with road approval and embodies the BMW M philosophy: maximum driving experience without compromise. Since 2021, the vehicle has been part of the “Best of M Collection,” making it a highlight for collectors who want to experience performance history.

The auction also features the BMW Z3 M Coupe, a compact classic with striking bodywork and direct handling, as well as the BMW 2002 Turbo (1975), which is considered the forerunner of all later M vehicles and laid the foundation for the M philosophy. These vehicles illustrate the breadth of M history from early turbo compact cars to compact roadsters to modern highperformance machines.

Equally exciting is the BMW M4 GT3 (2022), which was raced by Valentino Rossi. After its last race, the vehicle was given an art car paint job by Walter Maurer, combining motorsport history and design art.

The auction not only brings together classic and modern M vehicles, but also shows how BMW M has preserved its philosophy over the decades. The cars in the Best of M Collection are characterized by low mileage, careful maintenance, and great historical significance.

Even though other manufacturers are represented at the auction, the BMW M models remain the main attraction. They tell stories of technology, driving dynamics, and design, and of how a single letter has set the tone for decades.
