Aston Martin DBZ Centenary Collection

Famous coachbuilder Zagato celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2019. On this occasion, the Italians once again teamed up with the British sports car maker Aston Martin and set up an exclusive double. At the current Aston plant in Gaydon, the preliminary work on the new Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato, based on the DBS Superleggera, is underway. It receives a completely new body in its own design and with a modern interpretation of the famous ‘double bubble’ roof, which Zagato likes to use on Coupés.

In addition, Newport Pagnell, now the home of the classic department Aston Martin Works, will be the place where meticulous continuation cars of the very first project that the sports car brand tackled together with Zagato 58 years ago are produced once again. This is the DB4 GT Zagato, which was created back in the days primarily as a pure racecar in the fight against Ferrari. As back then, the replicas are made of thin-gauge aluminium body panels over a lightweight tubular frame. For this purpose, an original vehicle was measured digitally in three dimensions in order to make the new bodypanels fitting accurately. Under the bonnet a newly built inline-six cylinder engine, built to original specifications from Tadek Marek, the engine developer of Aston Martin in the 1960s. This engine should release its about 380 hp via a four-speed gearbox and a limited slip differential to the rear wheels.

Together, these two cars make up the DBZ Centenary Collection. Aston Martin and Zagato offer 19 of these twin packs, with no possibility to purchase only the DBS or only the DB4 individually. Each of the 19 happy customers worldwide pays six million GBP plus taxes for the two new vehicles together. But he or she won’t even get both vehicles delivered at the same time. The production of the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation starts in Q4 2019, while that of the DBS GT Zagato starts in Q4 2020.
