Alpina B8 Gran Coupé

Alpina presents the B8 Gran Coupé as a noble alternative to the BMW M8 Gran Coupé. Thanks to the close cooperation that exists between the exclusive manufactory in Buchloe and BMW, Alpina is allowed to draw on the bodyshell and various components, as always. Nevertheless, the end result is an independent vehicle whose orientation appeals to a different core clientele than the M models. Instead of pure performance on race tracks, customers here are looking more for the perfect companion on long journeys. A task for which the B8 Gran Coupé seems tailor-made.

More power than in the Porsche Carrera GT

Pure engine performance is on par with the M8 Gran Coupé. Alpina uses the 4.4-liter V8 biturbo engine already familiar from other models like the B5. In the B8 Gran Coupé, it delivers 457 kW/621 hp and 800 Nm of torque to the crankshaft. In combination with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission, it accelerates to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and on to the unlimited topspeed of 201 mph. This leaves the M8 far behind. Fifteen years ago, this performance output was enough to earn it admission to the supercar club. However, the B8 deliberately offers more comfort throught the use of Eibach springs and specially tuned anti-roll bars. Compared with normal BMW 8 Series Gran Coupés, the Alpina is lower and firmer on the road.

Subtle visual changes

As usual, Alpina changes the appearance of the basic vehicle only in a few areas. A stand-alone front bumper provides more fresh air to the radiators with a larger air intake and also integrates a spoiler lip. The company lettering is incorporated just above it. The typical 20-spoke 21-inch rims are of course a must. They are covered with sports tires whose rubber compound has been adapted by Pirelli for the B8 Gran Coupé. Alternatively, 20-inch wheels with all-weather tires are available. Behind them sits the Brembo brake system with blue-painted calipers. The rear bumper with integrated diffuser insert is also new. In addition, a spoiler lip on the trunk lid reduces lift. Four oval exhaust tailpipes discharge the exhaust gases to the outside.

Extensively equipped

Inside, the Alpina B8 Gran Coupé offers luxury and comfort. Leather seats are standard, as are an infotainment system, digital instruments and four-zone automatic climate control. The only options on the order sheet are special paint finishes, extended leather trim, a more powerful music system, a panoramic glass roof or a carbon roof. The base price in Germany is € 161,200.
