Messerschmitt KR 202 Sport

Shortly after World War 2, the need for vehicles grew in Germany. However, hardly anyone had savings or a high salary. Thus one could afford a motorcycle or at best a micromobile. These were available from many different manufacturers and in a wide variety of forms. Probably the best known to this day are the Isetta from BMW or the Kabinenroller (cabin scooter) from Messerschmitt. Due to the economic miracle, the age of micromobiles with small engines was very limited. After about ten years of construction, most of them were a thing of the past. Since Messerschmitt was allowed to produce aircraft again from mid-1956, vehicle production moved to FMR, a company founded shortly before. This abbreviation stood for Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau Regensburg GmbH.

New edition of the Kabinenroller (cabin scooter)

Until 1964, six different variants of the Kabinenroller rolled off the production line. In addition to the standard version with a Plexiglas hood, there was a Cabrio-Limousine (convertible sedan), a Roadster without side windows, a Sport version and the Tg-500 with four wheels. In addition, there was the unique KR 200 Super with only one seat and aerodynamic fairing. At the beginning of the current millennium, there were attempts to revive this vehicle concept in the UK and in Sweden, but they came to nothing. Now the Messerschmitt KR 202 Sport is rolling along, which may even carry the classic brand name again. Production takes place in Málaga, Spain. With European COC papers, the Kabinenroller can then be registered as a new car in Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, for example, according to the company.

Modern equipment at extra cost

A single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 125 cubic centimeters and an output of 5.4 kW/7.3 hp sits at the rear wheel. This engine meets the Euro4 emissions standard and delivers the engine power to the single rear wheel via a CVT transmission. The fuel tank size of six liters gives the KR 202 Sport a range of around 160 kilometers. Instead of the open cockpit, an easy-to-fit Plexiglas hood is optionally available to make the car weatherproof. For an additional charge, Messerschmitt supplies a DAB+ radio with Bluetooth and satellite navigation, LED entry lights, a two-stage electric heater, chrom trim on the outside or a luggage rack. There also are optional luggage racks behind the two seats and on the sides or a USB port for charging smartphones.

Electric version to follow soon

The basic version of the Messerschmitt KR 202 Sport currently costs € 10,950 plus German VAT thanks to a 20 percent discount. Ten different paint finishes are initially available. In addition, the interior is available with upholstery in black, red, wine red, white or cream white. However, special customer requests can also be met. An electrically powered version of the Kabinenroller, the KR-E 5000, will follow shortly. We will present this as soon as technical data and pictures are available.
