Lamborghini Espada & Islero Tour
With two special anniversaries Lamborghini is celebrating this year. Both the 2+2-seater Islero and the four-seater Espada first appeared on the market in 1968, thus they’re celebrating their 50th anniversary. On this occasion, the Italian sports car manufacturer offered a special tour of Italy for owners of these classic cars. About 800 kilometers the tour went through Umbria, Tuscany and the Emilia-Romagna. Of course the participants caused a stir along the route. Where else do you see about 20 classic twelve-cylinder sports cars from all over Europe together?

On their way they crossed the beautiful inner cities of Perugia, Orvieto and Assisi. But much more interesting were the picturesque landscapes along the winding country roads in the Italian countryside – combined with the twelve-cylinder sounds of the classic exotics. At the end of the tour, the entire starting field reached the Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, where the vehicle crews could visit the Lamborghini Museum and the classic car department Polo Storico.

In addition, company boss Stefano Domenicali awarded some special prizes at the finish line to selected participants of this tour. An award for the car owned the longest by a single owner went to a 1973 Espada Series 3, which belongs to a British couple since 1977. Initially, it was their only daily car, used for shopping, the drive to work and the schoolrun. Recently the car was restored and was now used for the tour to Italy to celebrate the couple’s Golden Wedding. A crew from the Norwegian capital Oslo received the prize for the longest journey. After all, they drove about 6,000 kilometers to take part in the tour. The ‘most faithful’ car for the Lamborghini factory is an Islero S, delivered new in the UK in 1969, which has always remained family-owned and is owned by the son of the first owner since 1993. It is driven to the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese every year for service. Some nice impressions of the Islero and Espada tour can be found in our picture galleries.
