St. Moritz can be many things: a winter sports destination, a social hub, a retreat and, for more than 150 years, one of the leading names in the Alpine hotel industry. We, too, find ourselves drawn to the Engadin at least once a year, particularly when THE ICE St. Moritz brings together classic cars on a frozen lake and snow-covered mountain passes. For the coming autumn and winter season, we have therefore selected five hotels that embody the unique character of St. Moritz in very different ways.<\/p>\n\n

Badrutt’s Palace Hotel<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Hardly any other hotel is as closely associated with the image of St. Moritz as Badrutt\u2019s Palace. Since 1896, the grand hotel has stood overlooking the lake and, over the decades, has become a meeting place for international guests, artists, sportspeople and high society. Much about the Palace still evokes the golden age of grand hotels, from the opulent lobby to the historic Chesa Veglia. At the same time, the hotel is constantly evolving. Kulm Hotel<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Kulm marks the beginning of a chapter in the history of winter sports. In 1864, hotelier Johannes Badrutt bet his English summer guests that they would also enjoy St. Moritz in winter \u2013 a bet that is regarded as the birth of Alpine winter tourism. Today, the Kulm combines this history with a contemporary understanding of luxury. Situated above the lake, the hotel offers sweeping views over St. Moritz and the surrounding mountains. Behind its historic fa\u00e7ade, grand hotel tradition, modern gastronomy and contemporary design come together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlton Hotel<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Carlton is the more intimate alternative to St. Moritz\u2019s grand hotels. Rather than sprawling hotel complexes, the hotel offers a manageable number of suites and a distinctly private atmosphere. Perched high above the lake, the view from here stretches far across the Engadin. Historic features blend with a classically elegant interior, whilst the cuisine and service are deliberately tailored to individual preferences. Suvretta House<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Just above St. Moritz, surrounded by woodland and mountains, the Suvretta House stands as a little haven of its own. Since it opened in 1912, this grand hotel has been one of the leading names in the Engadin hotel industry and has retained its classic character. The hotel\u2019s location is particularly advantageous in winter: its own ski lift leads directly into the Corviglia ski area, whilst guests can return to the tranquillity of the hotel after a day\u2019s skiing. A new, spacious spa area was also opened for the 2026 winter season \u2013 a contemporary addition to a hotel whose strength lies above all in its tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grace La Margna<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The GRACE LA MARGNA brings a younger, contemporary feel to St. Moritz\u2019s traditional hotel scene. The historic building, situated right next to the railway station, has been given a fresh new look, combining elements of the Belle \u00c9poque with a modern interior. Rather than the classic grandeur of a grand hotel, the establishment focuses on clean lines, warm materials and a relaxed atmosphere. It also features a spa, restaurants and bars, as well as being just a short walk from the centre. A hotel for anyone who appreciates St. Moritz but doesn\u2019t necessarily want to stay in a place steeped in its past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
